The Wolf & His Director

The Cast

The Real Story of Little Red Riding Hood

Younger son has had so much fun doing a two week drama camp. They did the play, "The Real Story of Little Red Riding Hood. The group of 8 kids met for three hours Monday thru Friday for the two weeks. It was pretty far from us so I stayed in a different area of the church and caught up on my reading. Younger son was the only boy and was given the part of The Wolf. It was his first musical. There were 8 song preformed and he had a solo. The director was wonderful! She is a voice teacher among many other things and what she was able to get these kids to do in two weeks was amazing. A great experience all around. We of course had some "drama" in the two weeks :) They had one very difficult student and after sitting in with two dress rehearsal as an observer I had a huge respect for how the director dealt with her. The second thing that happened is younger son went to a cast party from his last play with his fine arts group the night before he preformed in this play. Well it never accrued to him to save his voice since he has never used it as much as in the two weeks singing. Needless to say he came home with little voice! We did a lot of warm water, lemon and honey along with no talking! By that night he did fine and sounded like himself. I was relieved he had enough voice back to preform. He has learned a new life lesson if he plans to continue preforming so it had it's purpose.

We have been mostly just driving the last two weeks and coming home and doing nothing. Today we caught up on some things. I had to go to church and scoop ice cream into cups for our Sundae Sunday for our contemporary service tomorrow night. Older son brought stuff to the shed and did floors for me along with his laundry. We cleaned up a bit and Kevin managed dishes. This two week wiped him out! He is used to being home more :)

Younger son has come up with an other opportunity that was too good to pass up. It was a hard decision mostly because of the cost. There is a large theater in a town about 40 minutes from us doing a two week theater camp from 9am to 3pm. They have all professionals working with the kids. They are going to learn scenes, songs and choreography from high school musical and the following Sunday preform it on the stage all the professionals play on. When he goes to college he plans on majoring in education to become a teacher, but he wants to minor in either music or theater. I am hoping this will give him more information to make the best decision for him. Plus it will be great fun! The performance is open to the public and are even charging for tickets.

Now I am off to put up some pictures from the musical! Have a great weekend!

Time To Get Out Of The House, 70's This Week!

We spent Fathers Day at my parents. My sister, brother in law, niece and brother also came. It was nice just sitting around talking. Amazingly no practical jokes were played. I once stuck a video camera around the corner when my brother was in the bathroom. He didn't find it as amusing as the rest of us. Someone is usually hiding around the corner, so we are always a little cautious walking around the house. My sister made baked beans with a new ingredient which was really good. Someone told her to try Lipton Onion Soup in the recipe and it was really good. I picked up an ice cream cake. We haven't had one of those in ages.

This week younger son started his two week summer drama group. It was for kids from 5th grade through high school. They were expecting more kids and had a play picked out for 20. They ended up with a group of 8 or 9 and younger son is the only boy. They switched the play to, "The Real Story of Little Red Riding Hood". He loves the part he was given! He plays the wolf which is a large roll to memorize in less then two weeks. They are doing 5 songs and younger son performs one on his own. A dream come true:) We are stating his costume tomorrow. The group is also doing all their own set and back drops. They start painting tomorrow. I was impressed with the women running it. She and her husband just move here from New York and she was on stage until she had more then one child and decided to give it up and teach. She does drama, voice and piano. Younger son may start voice with her in the fall depending on the prices. I would like him to do at least one semester to get some background on voice. It is a small group and younger son is the oldest, but it will be a great experience for him to have one of the leading rolls in a musical and get to sing a solo! It is fun to see him so excited.

Today when we came home from the drama group we were in a hurry because his music teacher would be at our house around the same time we would be. When we came home younger son set up and warmed up and then we waited and waited and waited some more. It took us about an hour and a half to remember for the summer his lessons are changed to Wednesdays! Oh well, we will do it over again tomorrow.

The weather here is beautiful this week! Today is 72 and mostly sunny. The rest of the week in the 70's too! This is my kind of weather. I did get my car back from the repair shop and the air seems to be finally fixed. I have a year warranty on it, but it is such a pain to keep bringing it back in. I am hoping it holds together and I don't have any more leaks!

Bad Weather, Car Problems, & Murder

I am guessing I have your attention :) The whole Midwest has been having terrible weather for awhile now. We have been pretty lucky that we haven't had any tornadoes hit close to us and we haven't had too much flooding in our neighborhood. It has been a strange Spring I must say. My parents lost their electricity for a couple of days but they are back up now too. Milo hates the thunder and hasn't wanted to go out once it is dark. When he is out he is usually fine, it's just getting the leash on him and out the door. In our neighborhood just about a mile or two down we have a minor league baseball field. When the team has a home game at the end they light off fireworks, so Milo is not thrilled at the dark anymore.

Now for the car problems. Nothing that will make the car not run, but the air conditioning went out. I took it in for an estimate and it was way too high so I was just going to leave it. Air conditioning is definitely a comfort not a necessity. Although on some days I would argue it is a necessity! The car guy told me that the parts that needed replacing also are responsible for my ice melting and defogging in the winter. Well, I do need to see, so I told him to go ahead and do it. Last week I got the car back and it didn't seem right. It made a hissing sound and wasn't really cool. By the second time I drove it, warm air was coming out instead of cold air so I brought it back to the car place. Yesterday I picked it back up and it seemed cool as I drove it home, but still it was hissing. Today again just hot air coming out. So as I type this I am waiting for younger son to get home from work so we can drop the car off again. I am really hope third time is the charm!

Murder, scary stuff to say the least. When we came home tonight after younger son's practice at church, our neighbor told us there was a dead body found with a gun shot wound right by us. Turns out it was between my bank and our condominium complex. Just one building down from us. This is scary on many levels since we are in and out at all hours and walk the dog 4 times a day. The neighbor knocked again about a half hour later and told us the the body was not found right by us it was a bank farther down the street. I wasn't sure I was relieved or not, but for some reason that extra couple of block made me feel a little better. I am waiting to see if it makes the paper tomorrow and maybe the local one on Thursday. Now I have to go walk the dog!
